About David Rennie

About Me.

I am a self taught photographer, picking up my first digital camera in September 2007.

It was on a sunny October morning, whilst driving to work that my photographic journey began. A shadow appeared on the bonnet of my car that looked like a giant prehistoric pterodactyl was flying overhead. The sun blocked any chance I had of seeing what it actually was but I followed it for two kilometres until it disappeared behind the trees.

Pulling over, I walked into the bush and quickly found myself waste deep in icy cold water, covered in cobwebs and mozzies staring at possibly the most bizarre bird that God had ever created. There was a small colony of 12 birds all busy building, fixing or sitting on nests in trees some 12-20 feet high and four feet deep in the water.

I raced home, got my new camera and came back. Sitting on a half submerged log, I stayed transfixed on the sight before me until I could not feel my legs or feet. It took me 10 times longer to stagger out of the swamp than it did to get in there. It was now dark and eight hours later than when I arrived. I had taken 1,500 images and drove home exhausted, excited, very wet and numb from the cold. Little did I know what I had just started.

Oh and by the way the bird was a Spoonbill and so my journey began.
